Noel Gallagher jokes about launching political career with The After Party

Noel Gallagher has joked about how he could sort out Britain by entering politics and launching his own electoral charge with The After Party. The 56-year-old former Oasis man said he would run with the tagline, “It’s Going To Get Worse Before It Gets Better”.

“My party – it’d be called The After Party, and the strapline would be, ‘It’s Going To Get Worse Before It Gets Better’,” he told Matt Morgan on the comedian’s Funny How? podcast.

“I could deal with these Russians,” he said. “I’d just sit Putin down, and say, ‘Look, little guy – alright mate? What seems to be the problem?… What would you do if I taught you play guitar? Leave the Ukrainians alone?'”

Despite this, Gallagher also admitted that he doesn’t keep up with current affairs. “I don’t want to know,” he said, “the only news I listen to is on the radio. I listen to the news bulletins, and that’s all you need is the headlines: ‘Britain and America have bombed the Houthis’ and ‘The Cabinet voted against the Rwanda bill’.”

In a manner akin to his fellow Manc, Karl Pilkington, he continued: “That’s all you need to know, you don’t need to get into it,” adding, “I think ignorance is bliss.”

While the High Flying Birds musician may have been joking, it does illuminate the growing trend of pop culture figures getting involved in politics. In recent times, Kanye West and Waka Flocka Flame have both made legitimate bids for the US Presidency.

Elsewhere, Noel Gallagher has also recently collaborated with The Black Keys on their forthcoming album. The collaboration reportedly occurred in early 2023 when the band visited the UK. At the time, the Oasis songwriter told Rolling Stone, “We did a week in the studio in London and wrote three songs and I’ve gotta tell you, they’re fucking amazing.”
