Nick Reiner pleads not guilty to murdering parents

Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty to murdering his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

Reiner is charged with two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, as well as facing a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, which in this case, is alleged to be a knife.

If the 32-year-old is found guilty, he could spend his life in prison without the possibility of parole or even the death penalty.

Per NBC News, Reiner was “slumped over in a tan jumpsuit with his hair closely shaved” during the plea hearing, which took place at the Los Angeles County Superior Court on February 23rd.

During the hearing, Reiner reportedly sat in a box and only spoke to the court to answer yes to a question from the judge. According to The Independent, Reiner was not wearing a suicide prevention vest as he had previously in court.

Reiner was due to enter his plea at an earlier date; however, it was postponed after his lawyer, Alan Jackson, withdrew from the case.

At the time, Jackson insisted that he would not be making the reasons behind his decision public, adding, “I’m legally and ethically prohibited from explaining the reasons why.”

The couple, who had been married since 1989, were discovered dead on December 14th, 2025, at their family home in Brentwood, California.

On December 17th, 2025, the Los Angeles Medical Examiner confirmed in a statement that Reiner and Michele both died from “multiple sharp force injuries”.

Following the deaths, Rob and Michele’s two other children, Jake and Romy, issued the following statement: “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day.”

It continued, “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

A preliminary hearing has been set for April 29th, 2026.
