NFL chief says Taylor Swift is “welcome at any time” to headline Super Bowl
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said Taylor Swift is “welcome” to headline the Super Bowl halftime show.
Notably, Swift’s fiancé, Travis Kelce, is an NFL player for the Kansas City Chiefs, and she recently announced her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, on his New Heights podcast.
During an appearance on Today on September 3rd, Goodell said when asked about a potential Swift performance at the Super Bowl in the future, “We would always love to have Taylor play. She is a special, special talent and obviously, she would be welcome at any time.”
When asked whether a performance by Swift was already being planned, Goodell remained tight-lipped, responding, “I can’t tell you anything about that. It’s a maybe.”
The NFL commissioner then stated that he’s “waiting on my friend Jay-Z” to deal with the booking of the 2026 Super Bowl headliner. The rapper’s company, Roc Nation, has overseen the half time show since agreeing to a partnership with the NFL in 2019.
Swift has never spoken openly about her ambitions to headline the Super Bowl. However, she did intriguingly joke, in reference to being spotted frequently in the crowd at Kansas City Chiefs matches, about her appearance on the New Heights podcast, “As we all know, you guys have a lot of male sports fans that listen to your podcast. And we all know that if there’s one thing that male sports fans want to see in their spaces and on their screens, it’s more of me.”
Last year, the event was headlined by Kendrick Lamar. Other headliners since the NFL’s partnership with Roc Nation began include Dr Dre, Usher, Rihanna, and The Weeknd. Super Bowl LX is set to be held on February 6th, 2025, at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Swift’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl, is set for release on October 3rd. It was written and recorded during her record-breaking Eras Tour, which wrapped up in 2024. “I would be playing shows. I would do like three shows in a row. I’d have three days off,” she explained on New Heights of the creative process. “I’d fly to Sweden, go back to the tour, and was actually working on this. I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating.”
