Taylor Swift confirms details of new album ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ on ‘New Heights’ podcast
Taylor Swift has discussed her brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl, on the New Heights podcast, hosted by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce and his brother, Jason Kelce.
Fans had awaited the podcast’s release expectantly. Swift first announced the news in a teaser clip for her upcoming appearance on the podcast earlier this week. In the trailer, she produces a mint green and orange case emblazoned with her initials on it, telling her boyfriend’s brother: “I wanted to show you something. This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl.”
She also took to social media to share the news. “And, baby, that’s show business for you. New album The Life of a Showgirl. Out October 3,” she wrote, while also announcing that she co-produced the album with Max Martin and Shellback.
This shows Swift leaving Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner behind. Martin and Shellback collaborated with the performer to make some of Swift’s “favourite” songs in her discography, such as ‘Shake It Off’, ‘Blank Space’ and ’22’.
Though the album appears to reflect her record-breaking Eras Tour, as it was written at the same time as her time on the road, Swift insisted on the podcast that it focuses on the quieter moments of that time in her life. “My day ends in a bathtub, not usually in a bedazzled dress… I wanted to glamorise all the aspects of how the tour felt,” she said. Indeed, the official cover shows Swift mostly underwater.
She continued, “I wanted to have an offstage moment as the main album cover because the album isn’t really about what happened onstage, but what happened offstage.”
It was, however, created start to finish during the Eras Tour. “I would be playing shows. I would do like three shows in a row. I’d have three days off,” she explained to the brothers. “I’d fly to Sweden, go back to the tour, and was actually working on this. I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating.”
Though she was absolutely exhausted, the ‘Cruel Summer’ singer said that the 12-track project is filled with joy. “It just comes from like the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life. And so that effervescence has come through on this record.”
Swift recently bought back the rights to her entire catalogue. As a result, she spoke with a newfound sense of freedom and play about the October release. “This is the record I’ve been wanting to make for a very long time,” she said. “Every single song is on this album for hundreds of reasons, you know, and you couldn’t take one out, and it’d be the same album. You couldn’t add one. It’s just right.” Swift’s other albums are famously much longer.
The official tracklist also reveals that the album will only contain one collaborator, ‘Espresso’ singer Sabrina Carpenter. The titular track will close out the album, which is set to arrive on October 3rd, 2025.
