Taylor Swift confirms new album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’
Taylor Swift has confirmed her upcoming 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, is on the way.
Swift revealed the news in a teaser clip for her upcoming appearance on the New Heights podcast, hosted by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. In the trailer, she produces a mint green and orange case emblazoned with her initials on it, telling her boyfriend’s brother Jason Kelce: “I wanted to show you something. This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl.”
No further details regarding the album, including its release date, tracks, or artwork, have been revealed. Since the cover was blurred in the clip, it is expected to be unveiled when the full podcast episode goes live on August 13th.
On Swift’s website, it states that pre-orders for the album will be shipped before October 13th, although it clarifies that this is not the actual release date.
The Life of a Showgirl comes as Swift’s 12th album, following on from the release of her last record, The Tortured Poets Department, last year, which broke streaming records on Spotify for being played 300 million times in one day.
The singer has always been strong at dropping hints with regards to her work. As this is her 12th album, she announced it at 12.12am on August 12th. Furthermore, she also posted a range of photos of herself dressed in orange outfits at the Eras Tour, hinting towards the album’s colour scheme.
Furthermore, shortly after The Life of a Showgirl was announced, orange billboards appeared in New York and Nashville which directed fans towards a playlist Swift had curated of some of her previous hits, titled ‘And, baby, that’s show business for you.’
All the tracks on the playlist were produced by Max Martin and Shellback, prompting speculation that they could be back on board to produce the new album.
Since the conclusion of the Eras Tour in December last year, which became one of the highest-grossing music tours of all time and generated £1 billion for the economy during its stint in the UK alone, Swift has had a relatively quiet start to 2025, only re-emerging briefly in May to announce that she had bought back the master copies of the albums she had previously been re-recording.
So far, she has re-released four of the six newly recorded albums, excluding her self-titled debut and Reputation.
