Neil Young says he’s “listening to my body” after cancelling tour
Neil Young has addressed his cancelled European and UK tour for the first time.
Young was scheduled to kick off the tour in Cornwall on June 17th at the Eden Sessions, before a huge date in Manchester on June 19th at Heaton Park, before visiting France, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and Italy.
His summer itinerary in the United Kingdom also included the festival circuit, with shows planned at Blenheim Palace and a Saturday night performance at the inaugural State Fayre in Essex. Alanis Morissette has since replaced him at the latter event.
At the time of the cancellation, Young told fans, “I have decided to take a break and will not be touring Europe this time. Thanks to everyone who bought tickets. I’m sorry to let you down, but this is not the time. I do love playing LIVE and being with you and the Chrome Hearts. LOVE Neil be well.”
Now, Young recently responded to a series of fan letters on his Neil Young Archives website, which were all published on February 20th, and provided some reason for the cancellation.
“All is good Michael. Just needed a break. Listening to my body,” Young wrote in response to one fan in regards to the cancellation of the dates who was checking that “everything is OK” with the legendary singer-songwriter.
In another letter, a fan asked Young for “better understanding of the decision to cancel” and explained that they had made plans to follow him across Europe, to which the Canadian again stated that he “needed a break”.
However, he did not go into the specific reasons as to why he needs a break from touring.
Additionally, in response to another fan who asked him to tour the US and bring people together against the current regime, Young stated that he “will try” to do so, but did not provide a timeline on when he possibly would hit the road.
Last summer, Young had a busy touring schedule, which began with a lengthy trip around Europe, including headline dates at Glastonbury and BST Hyde Park in the UK, before embarking upon a North American tour.
