Neil Young and Joan Baez to perform at rally for Bernie Sanders and Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez
Neil Young and Joan Baez have been confirmed to perform at an upcoming Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rally.
The rally in support of the Democratic Party politicians will take place on April 12th at Gloria Molina Grand Park in Los Angeles. Young and Baez will perform alongside Maggie Rogers, Jeff Rosenstock, Indigo De Souza, the Red Pears and LA’s Raise Gospel Choir.
The duo’s rallies have been organised in the wake of President Donald Trump’s second election win. Sanders stated that the aim of the tour is to decide “how we move forward to take on the oligarchs and corporate interests who have so much power and influence in this country.”
The announcement of Young’s appearance comes after he admitted he’s fearful President Donald Trump will prevent him from returning to America once he leaves for his European tour this summer.
On his Neil Young Archives website, Young said, “When I go to play music in Europe, if I talk about Donald J. Trump, I may be one of those returning to America who is barred or put in jail to sleep on a cement floor with an aluminum blanket. That is happening all the time now. Countries have new advice for those returning to America.“
Despite the obvious threat of being deported for making negative comments about Trump, Young defiantly continued with his statement, adding, “That’s right folks, if you say anything bad about Trump or his administration, you may be barred from re-entering USA. If you are Canadian. If you are a dual citizen like me, who knows? We’ll all find that out together.”
Young then said: “If the fact that I think Donald Trump is the worst president in the history of our great country could stop me from coming back, what does that say for Freedom? I love America and its people and its music and its culture.”
Young’s tour of Europe begins on June 18th in Rättvik, Sweden Dalhalla, before returning to America for the US leg beginning in Charlotte, North Carolina, on August 8th. He will also headline Glastonbury Festival alongside The 1975 and Olivia Rodrigo.
