Neil Young is worried Donald Trump will ban him from America: “Worst president in the history of our country”
Neil Young has admitted he’s fearful President Donald Trump will prevent him from returning to America once he leaves for his European tour this summer.
Young has called the United States his home since the 1960s when he left Canada in order to follow his dream in California. In 2020, the legendary singer-songwriter, who is set to headline Glastonbury in June, became a dual citizen, but he is still worried that he might be rejected from coming home to the US.
The former Buffalo Springfield musician has been a vocal critic of Trump. During his first term in the Oval Office, he declared the politician a “disgrace to my country” and he’s now condemned him once more in a new blog post.
On his Neil Young Archives website, Young shared with fans: “When I go to play music in Europe, if I talk about Donald J. Trump, I may be one of those returning to America who is barred or put in jail to sleep on a cement floor with an aluminum blanket. That is happening all the time now. Countries have new advice for those returning to America.“
Young continued: “You can read about it at the CANADA Desk. If I come back from Europe and am barred, can’t play my USA tour, all of the folks who bought tickets will not be able to come to a concert by me.”
Despite the threat of possible deportation for making negative comments about the Trump administration, seemingly, Young is undeterred. He added: “That’s right folks, if you say anything bad about Trump or his administration, you may be barred from re-entering USA. If you are Canadian. If you are a dual citizen like me, who knows? We’ll all find that out together.”
Young then said: “If the fact that I think Donald Trump is the worst president in the history of our great country could stop me from coming back, what does that say for Freedom? I love America and its people and its music and its culture.”
He also highlighted freedom of speech before claiming, “By these latest actions of our US government, it seems that those who speak out freely with their own opinions are now vulnerable to a non-existent Trump law. Then it seems to me that if you voted for Kamala Harris over Trump, that makes it possible for you to go to jail or be detained, punished in some way for not showing allegiance to what? How spineless is that? Trump is not be able to stand up to anyone who does not agree with his ideas? Remember, all months have 30 days.”
The ‘Heart of Gold’ singer concluded: “One country, indivisible, with Liberty and Freedom for all. Remember that? I do.”
Young came out in support of Harris prior to the election, describing her as “a good person who is unafraid to take on criminals and uphold the law of the USA.”
In 2008, before Trump moved into politics, he spoke positively about Young, telling Rolling Stone that the Canadian had “something very special”. He also recalled watching him at BobFest in 1992, and said that he “totally brought the house down” before calling him a “terrific guy”.
