Nadine Shah shares new single, ‘Greatest Dancer’
Leading up to the release of her upcoming album, Filthy Underneath, set to debut next month, Nadine Shah has revealed her latest single, ‘Greatest Dancer’.
The third single to be released from her upcoming album, ‘Greatest Dancer’ was reportedly inspired by Shah’s lockdown experience, a period of exclusion spent watching Strictly Come Dancing with her late mother. Blending tribal percussion with industrial electronic influences, the track succeeds in building hype for Filthy Underneath.
Her fifth studio album is set to be shared on February 23rd, the inaugural release from EMI North. This new wing of EMI is set to be the first UK major label to operate outside of London, so the Sunderland-born Shah seems a fitting choice for their first release.
Her first new music since 2020’s Kitchen Sink, Filthy Underneath is something of a comeback album. Chronicling the years spent since Kitchen Sink, the singles released thus far seem to show a maturing of Shah’s signature sound.
Beginning her career as a teenage jazz singer, Shah has since embraced her electronic and post-punk influences, particularly on this recently released material. In addition to the new single ‘Greatest Dancer’, the songwriter has recently released ‘Topless Mother’ and ‘Twenty Things’, both of which have proved wildly successful.
Signifying the quality and atmosphere of her new material, Shah has embarked on a European tour supporting synthpop icons Depeche Mode. The support slot comes in preparation for her own headline tour in the spring, which features a sold-out date at London’s Heaven, among other gigs across the country.
