Minor Threat announce new EP from ‘Out of Step’ era

The American punk group Minor Threat have announced a new EP containing unreleased material from the Out of Step era. The release coincides with the album’s 40th anniversary of the band’s only full-length studio album.

The material heard in the Out of Step Outtakes EP was initially recorded during sessions in January 1983, notably marking the first time the band entered a studio as a fully-fledged five-piece.

Exploring their raw and influential sound, the band reimagined tracks such as ‘In My Eyes’ and ‘Filler’, originally featured on their eponymous debut EP of 1981.

With unused tape remaining on the reel after these recordings, Minor Threat laid down the instrumental piece titled ‘Addams Family’. This track later evolved into the hidden track ‘Cashing In’ on Out of Step.

Remarkably, the complete version of ‘Addams Family’ and the refined versions of ‘In My Eyes’ and ‘Filler’ have been locked away from hungry ears for all these years. The recordings had been forgotten for over 35 years until the multitrack tapes were digitised in 2021.

The Minor Threat and Fugazi frontman Ian MacKaye mixed the never-before-heard material in collaboration with producer Don Zientara.

Out of Step Outtakes will arrive on December 1st via MacKaye’s Dischord Records. Listeners can find the EP across streaming platforms or purchase the upcoming release on clear 7-inch vinyl.
