Mick Jagger would like The Rolling Stones to headline Glastonbury again: “I loved doing it”

Mick Jagger has confirmed he would be in favour of The Rolling Stones returning to Glastonbury Festival in the future.

In 2013, they finally made their long-awaited debut at Worthy Farm, topping the bill on the Pyramid Stage alongside Arctic Monkeys and Mumford and Sons.

It remains one of the highest-attended sets in the 50-plus-year history of the festival, with comfortably more than 100,000 people in the crowd to watch them perform.

Now, in a new interview with NME, Jagger reflected on that special show, sharing, “I’m so glad I did it, I loved doing it. It was a great event, all my family and all my kids always go to Glastonbury, all the stories about Glastonbury ‘Lost Weekends’.”

“I’m so glad I went, I went the day before and had a great time, hung out with my kids, we went all over the place,” he added.

On their set specifically, Jagger revealed, “We tailored our thing for it, a little bit, enough. It is a special English thing, so you have to tailor it. It’s not an easy thing to do in a way because the stage is very odd, it’s so disjointed. You’re so far away from everyone.”

However, despite having issues acclimatising to the staging on the Pyramid Stage, Jagger confirmed they would happily come back, “It is a great vibe, there’s no doubt about. Do I want to do it again? I’ll say yes.”

Jagger also maintained that The Stones are not retired from the road despite having no imminent touring plans for this year in support of their forthcoming album, Foreign Tongues, insisting, “I want to do shows definitely, I don’t think there’ll be shows this year, but I hope to do some next year.”

It was previously reported that The Rolling Stones were due to hit the road in 2025 across the continent, including dates at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Additionally, they also allegedly axed plans for a 2026 tour due to Keith Richards not wanting to commit to a long spell on the road.

Now, Jagger has responded to those claims, admitting, “Keith couldn’t commit, and he wasn’t feeling so great about touring and everything.”

For now, though, the wait goes on for a possible return to the stage for The Stones, but it’s now only ten days until Foreign Tongues is unleashed into the world.

Last week, they continued to preview the upcoming album with a pair of new singles, including ‘Divine Intervention’ featuring The Cure’s Robert Smith, as well as ‘Jealous Lover’.
