Mick Jagger reveals why he’s against residencies: “I like to go places”

The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger has explained the reason he’s against the idea of residencies over touring.

In recent years, more and more major artists have chosen to make fans come to them in a select number of cities across the globe rather than travelling from town to town for traditional tours.

Currently, Harry Styles is on the Wembley Stadium leg of his series of global residencies to support his new album, Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally, which will see him play 68 shows in just seven cities.

Additionally, Eagles have been parked up at The Sphere in Las Vegas since 2024, and it is much more appealing for legacy acts that don’t want to spend their days on the road travelling.

During a recent interview with the Argentine outfit La Nación, Jagger was probed about the possibility of a tour or residency in support of their new album, Foreign Tongues, which arrives on July 10th.

While, as Jagger has said previously, there are no imminent plans to tour, he shared, “I’d love to tour this album, I can’t wait to sing (it). There’s so many songs on this album we can do on stage, so, I don’t think we’ll be touring this year, but I hope to tour next year, and I hope to do it as soon as possible. And, I’d love to come to Argentina, too.”

Then, Jagger was probed about “rumours about residencies in some specific cities,” to which he seemed against, responding, “I don’t know, I’m very ambivalent about residencies personally because it makes it very expensive for people to come to residencies, it costs twice as much.”

However, as much as he would prefer to do an old-fashioned tour, Jagger did say residencies are “better than nothing,” suggesting that he’d potentially agree to the possibility if it were a last resort.

He added, “I’m very comfortable moving around, personally. I like to go places.”

Although a tour isn’t on the cards, it’s now less than a week until Foreign Tongues arrives, which will keep fans happy for the foreseeable future.

Last week, they continued to preview the upcoming album with a pair of new singles, including ‘Divine Intervention’ featuring The Cure’s Robert Smith, as well as ‘Jealous Lover’.
