Martin Scorsese unexpectedly voices an alien in new ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ trailer

Martin Scorsese is once again trading places in the film world and heading for the big screen, as he has been officially cast in the Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian and Grogu, it has been revealed.

The news was unveiled on February 17th with the release of the second trailer for the upcoming blockbuster starring Pedro Pascal in the lead role of Din Djarin.

However, at a moment in the new trailer when Pascal’s character stops to find out information from an alien, eagle-eyed fans were quick to realise that the voice of the creature sounded very similar to the Hollywood director’s distinctive tones.

Subsequently, Lucasfilm, the company behind Star Wars, confirmed to USA Today that Scorsese has been cast in the film, which had not been previously revealed in any other information about the movie.

Per the last trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, the clip sees Pascal’s Din Djarin coming up against many of the franchise’s most iconic characters, including the likes of the Huts and Stormtroopers.

Aside from this, the main details of the plot have been kept strictly under wraps. Many were surprised, however, to see Pascal’s character without his famous mask, something which has rarely happened previously throughout The Mandalorian series.

For the part of Scorsese, this role marks another step up in his unexpectedly fledgling acting career, after he was nominated for ‘Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series’ at the 2025 Emmys for his role in The Studio.

It came as his first acting nods within the big leagues of awards, but it is not currently known which capacity his new voice role in the Star Wars universe will take. The rest of the ensemble cast for the film includes Jeremy Allen White, Sigourney Weaver, and Jonny Coyne.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to hit cinemas on May 22nd, 2026.
