First trailer arrives for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’

The first trailer for the latest film instalment to the Star Wars franchise, The Mandalorian and Grogu, has been released.

The film, which is being directed by Jon Favreau and is set to star Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, and Jonny Coyne, will be released in May next year. It is marked as a continuation of The Mandalorian spin-off series, a fourth instalment of which was halted due to the 2023 writers’ strikes and subsequently redeveloped into a movie.

An official synopsis for the movie reads: “The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.”

Alongside Pascal as Din Djarin, Weaver plays the character of Ward – a leader of the New Republic – while White plays Rotta the Hutt and Coyne plays an Imperial Warlord. Additional casting for the film is yet to be announced, with the character of Grogu being made with animatronics and puppetry.

The trailer is notable for the fact that it gives away very little dialogue, with the only words being “Impressive” from The Mandalorian while passing comment to his apprentice, and Grogu’s proclamation of “Good shot, baby!” as he takes out a monster.

Disney is hoping that The Mandalorian and Grogu will signal a new era for the Star Wars franchise, as explained by the company’s CEO, Bob Iger, in February 2024. It will mark the first new film in the franchise since The Rise of Skywalker, which was released back in 2019.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released in cinemas on May 22nd, 2026.
