Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio announce new action thriller ‘Carthage Must Be Destroyed’

The classic duo are getting back together. Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese have announced a new action thriller, titled Carthage Must Be Destroyed.

Deadline has revealed that the film will follow a stranger navigating a rust-belt city ruled “by a criminal underworld.” The report elaborates, “Using brain and brawn, he sows distrust and creates chaos, in order to dismantle the corrupt power structure.”

The movie will be written by Ocean Eleven’s Ted Griffin. Reportedly, casting is underway for an October production start in Rhode Island.

The latest output from the duo, 2023’s Killers of the Flower Moon, received a glowing 4.5 stars from Far Out. The review states: “As expected of Scorsese, every shot is perfectly crafted and brings the nature of the true-crime narrative to new cinematic heights.”

Of DiCaprio’s performance in that movie, Scorsese gushed: “He went so far into the complexities and contradictions of a man who was so weak, so malleable, who did such unspeakable things, but who also truly loved his wife. Leo fearlessly created a true Everyman – an Everyman that people just don’t want to acknowledge. So, that will endure.”

Verdi Productions president Chad A. Verdi called the new film “a dynamic project.” The team were eager to “bring Ted’s outstanding screenplay to the big screen,” he added. “It’s a pleasure to be collaborating with Marty, Leo, Jen, Gareth and Chris, and our extraordinary producing team will elevate this project to new heights.”

Scorsese had also announced another new project. This will feature Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt and Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie is set to combine elements of other Scorsese masterpieces such as Goodfellas and The Departed, only this time through the lens of an organised crime boss in Hawaii.

The filmmaker and mastermind will also soon have his own Apple TV+ documentary, which will feature a host of A-list celebrities with whom he has previously worked.
