Dwayne Johnson confirms he’ll star in Martin Scorsese’s new movie
As Martin Scorsese prepares for his next major theatrical release, Dwayne Johnson has confirmed that he will be joining the cast.
Official news of Johnson’s involvement comes after it was previously reported that he was working on the project with Scorcese along with Emily Blunt and Leonardo DiCaprio. As of yet, there has been no word on when filming is set to start.
The film itself is set to be another trip into Scorsese’s world of organised crime. In a post on Johnson’s X account, he posted a headline which stated that the movie is set to combine elements of other Scorsese masterpieces such as Goodfellas and The Departed, only this time through the lens of an organised crime boss in Hawaii.
When talking about the film, Johnson stated, “Grateful for what’s been the most creatively inspiring time of my career – working closely with my friends and of course, the maestro Marty Scorsese. Much more to come.”
The story’s premise is one of the missing pieces of mob history, with reports previously describing it as “the untold true story of a man who fought to preserve his homeland through a ruthless quest for absolute power—igniting the last great American mob saga.”
Despite Scorsese working on various scripts, including a would-be biopic on the life of Frank Sinatra, the idea for the film was presented to him and DiCaprio by Johnson and Blunt. Alongside his role in the movie, Johnson will also serve as one of the producers of the film with Scorsese as well as Blunt and DiCaprio.
This marks another team-up between Scorsese with DiCaprio, having already worked with him on The Departed and recently received widespread acclaim for his work on the movie Killers of the Flower Moon. While many of Scorsese’s other projects have been shelved for the time being, there is no word as to the production timeline of this new chapter in his mob movie saga.
