Martin Scorsese lines up Leonardo DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt for new movie
The Killers of the Flower Moon director Martin Scorsese is set to reunite with Leonardo DiCaprio for a mysterious new movie which also stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.
According to a new report from Deadline, the untitled film is based on a true story and stars Johnson as a crime boss in Hawaii as he attempts to gain control of the dark underworld across the Hawaiian islands during the 1960s and ’70s.
The description of the movie claims it is “based on the untold true story of a man who fought to preserve his homeland through a ruthless quest for absolute power — igniting the last great American mob saga, where the war for cultural survival takes place in the unlikeliest of places: paradise.” The film’s plot has also been likened to Goodfellas and The Departed.
Nick Bilton, who has previously written books on Twitter and Silk Road, is set to pen the movie. Meanwhile, Scorsese, Johnson, Blunt, DiCaprio, Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn will serve as producers on the project.
Johnson and Blunt have worked together on Benny Safdie’s upcoming movie, The Smashing Machine, which will be released later this year through A24. It’s reported that the duo brought the idea for the new movie to Scorsese and DiCaprio, who agreed to be on board.
Although no production company is currently attached to the project, multiple bids are reportedly either already on the table or set to arrive soon.
Scorsese’s last movie, The Killers of the Flower Moon, arrived in 2023. Since then, he planned to shoot a Frank Sinatra biopic starring Leonardo DiCaprio and The Life of Jesus, but he shelved both films indefinitely last September.
