Mariah Carey really doesn’t care about Rock and Roll Hall of Fame snub: “Just give it to someone else”

Mariah Carey wants you to know that she really doesn’t care that she was snubbed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame despite her avid campaigning for the industry honour.

Carey became eligible for induction in 2016, but has now been snubbed multiple times despite her commercial dominance. Though the star was first nominated in 2024, she has yet to secure a spot among the coveted inductees.

In response to the disappointing news, the musician told TMZ that she didn’t mind being overlooked by the industry once again. “Yeah, who cares?” she shared, adding, “Just give it to someone else, fantastic.”

When it was suggested to her that her fans thought the decision was unfair, she ignored the industry implications and offered an amicable, “I love my fans. Always!”

However, Carey had actually amped up her campaign for the induction this year; she dedicated two interviews for the induction, and shared earnestly with Variety that the honour would be “amazing” and “really, really great” for her.

The Christmas diva also made sure fans were aware of her history in rock by inviting Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and The Pretty Reckless singer Taylor Momsen to perform one of the songs from her overlooked grunge album, 1995’s Someone’s Ugly Daughter, live for the very first time.

In place of Carey, this year’s inductees include Oasis, Luther Vandross, Wu-Tang Clan, and Joy Division/New Order.

Iron Maiden, who have also been inducted, won’t be making it to the ceremony due to touring conflicts. Notably, frontman Bruce Dickinson said that the Hall was “an utter and complete load of bollocks” and that he didn’t want to be inducted.

Additionally, though Oasis are now set to be inducted, Liam Gallagher had previously led a campaign for the Britpop legends not to be included, calling it at various times “embarrassing” and thanking fans for not voting for the band in the audience poll.
