Watch Dave Grohl and Taylor Momsen cover Mariah Carey grunge track
The Foo Fighters and The Pretty Reckless vocalist Taylor Momsen have joined forces for a cover of two Mariah Carey grunge tracks from an unreleased project, 1995’s Someone’s Ugly Daughter.
The existence of the grunge album was revealed in 2020, in Carey’s memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey. The project was eventually released under the band name Chick, but Carey’s vocals were missing.
Though Carey is currently on a quest to find the version of the album with her vocals on, Grohl and Momsen had a better idea, deciding to cover some of the songs at the MusiCares Person Of The Year benefit gala honoring the singer.
The event, which took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center, saw the musicians come together for the covers, as Carey sang along to the lyrics from her seat. They covered ‘Love Is A Scam’ and ‘Demented’.
There were plenty of other stars performing at the event, though nobody quite managed to meet their level of rowdiness.
Singer-songwriter Laufey covered ‘It’s Like That’; Kesha covered ‘Obsessed’; Maggie Rogers performed a rendition of ‘Honey’; Teddy Swims performed ‘Without You’; Charlie Puth performed ‘I Still Believe’; John Legend tackled ‘Hero’; and Adam Lambert covered ‘Can’t Let Go’.
Grohl and Foo Fighters’ Pat Smear are familiar with performing alongside Momsen on stage; in 2022, they performed at a Taylor Hawkins tribute concert.
In other Foo Fighters news, the frontman recently revealed that a new album has now been completed. The hitmakers have not released a full studio record since 2023 with But Here We Are, but they have been making a gradual return to new music.
This year, they are also slated for several festival headline appearances, including Mad Cool in Madrid, Nos Alive in Lisbon, and Welcome To Rockville in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Momsen’s band, The Pretty Reckless, released their latest single, ‘For I Am Death’, in July last year.
