Back in 2007, characteristically droll singer-songwriter Malcolm Middleton saw himself slightly surprisingly catapulted into the consciousness of the masses.
The reason? His track ‘We’re All Going To Die’ from the album A Brighter Beat was the subject of an alternative Christmas number one campaign by a host of BBC Radio 1 DJs headed by now sports presenter Colin Murray.
It was an ultimately futile effort to knock Simon Cowell’s reign of festive X-Factor terror of its perch a few years before the snarling power and undying of Rage Against The Machine tipped the balance.
In the end, the track made it to number 31 and that was the last time that many of the mainstream media outlets that suddenly diverted their attention to Full Time Hobby signee made the effort.
But here at Far Out, it’s a track that we seem to come back to every year when the festive feeling hits. What’s more, we think the bleak, yet dry-witted video for the song probably has a lot to do with it.
