Lollapalooza 2025: Watch Cage The Elephant pay tribute to Ozzy Osbourne with ‘Changes’ cover

On the first day of Lollapalooza, Cage The Elephant honoured Ozzy Osbourne with a touching cover of Black Sabbath’s ‘Changes’.

Cage The Elephant performed on the Bud Light stage on the first day of the four-day Chicago festival on July 31st, ahead of headliner Luke Combs. Meanwhile, Tyler, the Creator headlined the T-Mobile stage, which also included sets from Gracie Abrams and Barry Can’t Swim.

Towards the end of their set, which included hits such as ‘Ready to Let Go’, ‘Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked’, and ‘Shake Me Down’, Cage The Elephant squeezed in a touching rendition of ‘Changes’ out of respect to Osbourne.

Addressing the crowd, frontman Matt Shultz said before the cover: “This past week, we lost, to say a legend would not do it justice, but a beautiful human being. When I think about this song, I think about all the little babies in the world. I just became a father myself, and Ozzy was a beautiful baby that grew to become a beautiful human being.”

He added, “So, this goes out to all the beautiful babies in the world who will grow up to become beautiful human beings to do beautiful things.”

Following the rock legend’s death, Coldplay also covered ‘Changes’ during a show. Meanwhile, Johnny Depp joined Alice Cooper to perform ‘Paranoid’ at London’s O2 Arena on July 25th, and Oasis dedicated ‘Rock N Roll Star’ to Osbourne at Wembley Stadium.

Osbourne’s funeral took place on July 31st at his family home near Gerrards Cross in Buckinghamshire. The Black Sabbath singer was buried, as he requested, near a lake at their sprawling 250-acre property in rural England.

Previously, on July 30th, the public paid farewell to Osbourne and came out in their thousands to support his family in Birmingham for his funeral procession at Black Sabbath Bridge.

Later this month, Cage The Elephant will begin their run as the main support for Oasis in stadium across North America, kicking off at the Rogers Stadium in Toronto on August 24th.
