Limp Bizkit “lost a piece of our DNA” after Sam Rivers died

Limp Bizkit are still in mourning for bassist Sam Rivers, who passed away at the age of 48 last year. Now, guitarist Wes Borland has detailed that the band is still struggling to cope with his loss.

Rivers passed away in October last year from an undisclosed cause of death. Sharing the news with millions of fans at the time, the band tragically wrote, “Sam Rivers wasn’t just our bass player – he was pure magic.”

Now, Borland opened up to Consequence about the aftermath of the tragic incident, reiterating that the musician was “like family” to the band.

He added, “I’m gonna try not to cry. It’s just like we lost a piece of our DNA. It’s too hard to talk about right now in depth.”

Borland went on, “He can’t ever be replaced. I mean, we’re so lucky for Richie [Buxton], who’s playing with us right now. He’s such a great player, and he’s just a wonderful guy, and we’re gonna hold onto him for as long as we can.”

The guitarist explained that Buxton’s other band with his wife, Ecca Vandal, is currently “blowing up”, but Limp Bizkit are keen to hold onto the musician “for as long as we can and keep moving forward”.

However, Borland was clear that the group never intend to replace Rivers, sharing, “Sam is not a replaceable person. He was the heartbeat. It’s crazy talking about… very emotional talking about it.”

Speaking on behalf of fellow bandmates Fred Durst, John Otto and DJ Lethal, he added, “I think that last year when it happened, we were all kind of in shock, and now we’re all grieving.”

The ‘Just Like This’ musicians are currently making their way around the European festival circuit, including an upcoming appearance at Hellfest Festival in France. Following this, they will return to the US for appearances at Summer of ’99 and Beyond, Inkcarceration, Louder Than Life, and Aftershock.
