Liam Gallagher reacts to ‘Saturday Night Live’ sketch on Oasis: “Excruciating”

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has responded to a new Saturday Night Live sketch ridiculing his band, labelling it an “excruciating” watch.

The latest episode, which aired on October 12th, of Saturday Night Live heralded the long-awaited return of Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks for the first time in over 40 years, who took to the stage to perform a moving rendition of her powerful pro-women new single, ‘The Lighthouse’. Nicks later returned to the broadcast to play her classic track, ‘Edge of Seventeen’.

Hosting duties were taken care of by Ariana Grande, who last hosted the iconic programmer in 2016. Furthermore, Maya Rudolph reprised her role as Kamala Harris as Saturday Night Live looked ahead to the presidential election on November 5th by parodying Family Feud.

During the weekend update part of the show, Colin Jost welcomed ‘Oasis’ to the segment. James Austin Johnson portrayed Noel Gallagher and Sarah Sherman played Liam Gallagher. They both inexplicably had Cockney voices despite being Mancunians, which is the equivalent of giving a New York accent to a Texan.

Oasis recently expanded their reunion tour to North America, and even added several new dates to the run of shows due to phenomenal demand.

As they’ve dominated conversation recently, the band had become ripe for Saturday Night Live to parody. However, the execution of the sketch left much to be desired. It began by Jost lazily asking whether they’d still be together when the US shows roll around in 2025. Of course, ‘Wonderwall’ played a role in the skit, with Noel changing the words to, “If Liam doesn’t act like a baby”, which led to the two brothers tediously calling each other a “baby”.

Sherman, who played Liam, then went through as many British tropes as possible in one sentence, stating: “Wembley Stadium, 1993, yeah, we was with Posh Spice, Scary Spice, Stinky Spice — you told everyone I had a crooked nob, yeah, you said my nob’s bended like Beckham.”

Shortly after the broadcast, Liam provided a brutal one-word response to a fan on X who asked for his thoughts on the segment, stating, “Excruciating”. This led to one X user telling the Oasis frontman, “They did you dirty man”, to which Liam replied: “I wouldn’t expect anything else from them”.

Furthermore, when another user brought the sketch to Liam’s radar, he asked in response, “Are they meant to be comedians”. Following Liam’s reaction to the skit, it’s safe to presume that Oasis will not be performing on Saturday Night Live anytime soon.

Oasis tour dates for North America:

Initially, Oasis announced a run of North American tour dates on September 30th, following on from the pandemonium created over the planned run of shows in the UK and Ireland next summer. The band will arrive in North America in August, taking to the stage at stadiums in Toronto, Chicago, East Rutherford, Los Angeles, and Mexico City. Due to the demand for tickets, Oasis will now play two nights at each of these venues, except Chicago.

In a statement, they said of their US tour: “America. Oasis is coming. You have one last chance to prove that you loved us all along.”
