Watch Stevie Nicks perform on ‘Saturday Night Live’ for first time in 40 years

Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks appeared on Saturday Night Live for the first time since 1983 on October 12th to deliver a powerful rendition of her new pro-women anthem, ‘The Lighthouse’, and classic track, ‘Edge of Seventeen’.

Saturday Night Live returned to screens on September 28th. So far, this series has welcomed Coldplay and Jelly Roll as musical guests with Billie Eilish and Chappell Roan also set to appear over the next two episodes.

For the latest episode, which aired on October 12th, hosting duties were taken care of by Ariana Grande who returned to 30 Rock for the first time since 2016.

With the presidential election looming ahead of the American public heading to the ballot boxes on November 5th, this was a major talking point from the latest edition of Saturday Night Live. The episode parodied the beloved game show, Family Feud, which saw Kamala Harris’s family go up against Donald Trump’s clan at the trivia quiz.

Saturday Night Live poked fun at Melania Trump’s absence from the campaign trail by not having her involved in the sketch, which also saw Kenan Thompson play Family Feud host Steve Harvey.

For the 50th season of Saturday Night Live, alumni Maya Rudolph has reprised her role of Harris who has complimented her performance.

In the latest episode, Rudolph’s Harris reflected on the last seven days of the campaign trail, stating, “It’s been a hell of a week. I went on Howard Stern to reach the horny cab drivers, I went on The View for the horny moms, and I also went on the podcast Call Her Daddy because I have a message for young women: You need to go to the ballot box if you want the government out of your ballot box.”

However, the stand-out moment came when Nicks took to the stage at 30 Rock. Her first outing of the evening saw her deliver an impassioned version of new track, ‘The Lighthouse‘, which she released last month.

“All the rights that you had yesterday, are taken away,” she sings on the track, “and now you’re afraid, you should be afraid, you should be afraid.”

The song was inspired by the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court, which previously guaranteed women the right to an abortion for almost four decades in the United States.

Upon releasing the song, Nicks said of Roe v. Wade: “It seemed like overnight, people were saying, ‘What can we, as a collective force, do about this…’ For me, it was to write a song.”

“I have often said to myself, ‘This may be the most important thing I ever do,’” Nicks continued, “To stand up for the women of the United States and their daughters and granddaughters — and the men that love them. This is an anthem.”

Later in the broadcast, Nicks returned to Saturday Night Live to perform an electrifying version of her iconic track, ‘Edge of Seventeen’.
