Kamala Harris praises Maya Rudolph’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ impersonation
Kamala Harris has reacted to Maya Rudolph’s impression of her on Saturday Night Live. During an appearance on the ABC morning talk show The View, the presidential candidate was shown the SNL clip.
“Well, well, well, look who fell out of that coconut tree. Your fun aunt has returned,” Maya Rudolph said as the sketch began. On the iconic American comedy show, this is the second time that the comedian has done an impression of the politician. The first was in 2019 during her original campaign run as Joe Biden’s vice president as she joked with Woody Harrelson who played Biden. She then brought the role back in 2021
Now, in 2024, she’s returned to the role for the opening of SNL’s 50th season as Harris is running for president. Once Biden dropped out of the presidential race and Harris took his place, fans called for Rudolph to revive her impression. “I am so happy to be campaigning in whatever swing state I’m in, which I will just refer to as Wisconsin-Pennsylv-Georgia because I am going to protect your Va-Georgia,” Rudolph joked in character.
When she was shown the clip on the morning show, Harris reacted with delight. “Oh my God! I hadn’t seen that,” she said. When asked by the hosts what she thought of the impersonation, Harris said that Rudolph was “spot on”, stating, “She is so good.”
She added, “She had the whole thing – the suit, the jewelry, everything!” With less than a month now until the election in the US, Harris is ramping up her media appearances, so even this comedic coverage on SNL will be an important part of her ongoing campaign as it gets down to the wire.
The latest on SNL
SNL has just relaunched for it’s 50th season. After beginning in 1975, the comedy TV series has become one of the most beloved spots on American television and has launched the careers of many famous comics, including Rudolph. She first appeared on the show in 2000, she was a long-running permanent fixture on it until 2007 but has made routine guest appearances ever since.
This new season boasts a strong array of guests across acting and music. Ariana Grande and Stevie Nicks are scheduled to appear this Saturday, on October 12th, while later episodes will feature Billie Eilish and Michael Keaton, Chappell Roan and John Mulaney and many more stars alongside the show’s own cast of comedians.
