Billie Eilish, Stevie Nicks and Coldplay to perform on new season of ‘Saturday Night Live’
Ahead of the inaugural episode, Saturday Night Live has announced Stevie Nicks, Billie Eilish and Coldplay as the musical guests for their first shows of the new season.
The legendary variety show, which is gearing up for its 50th season on the air, announced its musical guests alongside the hosts, who will appear from September 28th to November 2nd on NBC.
In a post confirmed on X, Nicks will visit the 30 Rock Studios on October 12th with Ariana Grande as the host, while the Eilish will follow one week later alongside host Michael Keaton, having already come off his latest film, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Among other acts appearing on the SNL stage include country star Jelly Roll on September 28th and Chappell Roan on November 2nd.
This comes after news that SNL veteran Maya Rudolph will appear in the latest season as presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
Rudolph first portrayed the presidential candidate in 2020, when she starred opposite Jim Carrey as President Joe Biden. Her casting follows a long line of politicians that the show has parodied during various election seasons, including Tiny Fey playing Sarah Palin and Alec Baldwin playing Donald Trump.
Following her casting, Rudolph shared that she felt honoured to play the candidate at such a crucial moment in political history, stating, “It’s rare to be involved in a presidential campaign…. I think knowing that there was a candidate that I resembled so much was so cool in and of itself.”
Despite her work on various film projects like the Apple comedy series Loot, Rudolph has requested putting other work on hold to focus on her role as Harris as the US election draws closer in November, 2024.
Outside of seasoned veterans returning to the stage, the iconic New York series is also going to have some familiar faces sprinkled into the mix as well. On September 10th, new cast members Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim and Jane Wickline will be joining the cast. This comes after the announcement that Punkie Johnson, Molly Kearney and Chloe Troast are leaving the programme.
Padilla began her career in San Francisco in projects like The Groundlings Main Company, while Wakim hails from Chicago and was awarded the ‘New Face of Comedy Award’ at the 2022 Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. Prior to casting, Wickline was known for her various comedy tours and joined the TikTok live show Stapleview.
