Liam Gallagher hits back at fan complaints over Oasis support slots
After Richard Ashcroft was officially confirmed to support Oasis on their UK and Ireland tour in 2025, Liam Gallagher has responded to complaints accusing the Britpop giants of ignoring new bands.
Ashcfoft has been closely aligned with Oasis before they were famous, therefore, his involvement in their reunion should come as little surprise. Although it was announced by Oasis on October 21st, Liam has previously hinted at Ashcroft opening up for the group next year on several occasions on social media in recent weeks.
Earlier this month, Liam went as far as claiming, “Just spoke to the CHEF here it is OASIS RICHARD ASHCROFT CAST you are welcome see you nxt year I’m of to to identify as a massive cunt LG x”. At this stage, Cast are still yet to be announced as supporting Oasis.
Notably, Oasis supported The Verve in 1993, and later shared a stage on several occasions over the next few years. Furthermore, Ashcroft inspired Noel Gallagher to write the Oasis classic ‘Cast No Shadow’, and also provided backing vocals on Be Here Now’s ‘All Around The World’.
Upon being announced to support Oasis, Ashcroft said: “As a fan from day one I was buzzing for many reasons when the news of Oasis’s return was announced. I can say with no exaggeration that the songwriting talent of Noel and Liam’s pure spirit as a lead singer helped to inspire me to create some of my best work.”
The former Verve leader continued: “It was the perfection of ‘Live Forever’ that forced me to try and write my own. They dared to be great, made the dreams we had real and I will always remember those days with joy. Now it’s time to create more memories and I’m ready to bring it. See you next summer. Music is power.”
While news of Ashcroft supporting Oasis across all of their UK and Ireland dates was largely celebrated due to the overlap between the two fanbases, some younger fans made their voices heard on social media by complaining that the opportunity wasn’t given to a new band.
Liam Gallagher defends Richard Ashcroft amid criticism
Liam responded to these posts by writing: “To all the folk who are crying about us not showing love to the young bands and not letting them support there’s LEVELS to this game and I’m afraid 99 of ya are way off.”
In response to a fan who said Gallagher’s analysis “applies to ur son’s shit band but they still opened for u didn’t they”, Liam said of the Gene Gallagher-fronted Villanelle, “It doesn’t actually there the 1 p cent that are mega.”
Furthermore, he acknowledged another post made by a fan who complained that “Oasis could really have made a difference by promoting newer/contemporary band”, replying, “Richard’s got more talent in his left nostril than all your so called new bands put together now stop being an entitled little bumbaseed and show some fucking respect”.
Additionally, following news of Ashcroft’s involvement on tour, one fan commented, “Least surprising news ever (laughing crying emoji) really hope you give some new artists a chance as well,” to which Liam responded, “They’re all shit I’m afraid”.
It was previously announced that Cage The Elephant would open for Oasis in North America, but no details have been released regarding their support act in Australia. However, due to the scale of the shows, it seems likely that Oasis will also secure an established act to join them for the jaunt.
