Leonardo DiCaprio in talks to star in ‘Heat 2’

Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly in talks to star in Michael Mann’s highly anticipated sequel to Heat.

According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is finally moving forward with United Artists, a subsidiary of Amazon MGM Studios, set to take over from Warner Bros.

It comes after Warner Bros reportedly couldn’t agree with Mann on a budget for the feature, which has opened the doors to United Artists. Jerry Bruckheimer is also claimed to be on production duties with Scott Stuber, and Mann back in the director’s chair.

Additionally, in another new report from Deadline, DiCaprio is currently in negotiations to play Chris Shiherlis, who was played by Val Kilmer in the original movie. However, it is reported that these talks remain in the “early” stages, and no offers have been made.

Last month, Mann provided an update on the project while appearing at the Busan Film Festival when he shared with those in attendance, “I look forward to possibly shooting it in 2026. We’re in the middle of doing all the things — budgeting, scheduling, casting process.”

When the film was first announced in 2022, Mann said of his bold plans for the production, “It’s totally planned to be a movie, Is it a modest movie? No. Is it a very expensive series? No. It’s going to be one large movie.”

DiCaprio’s latest role sees him star in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, which is in cinemas now.

In a four-and-a-half-star review, Far Out wrote: “Revitalising old stars and launching new ones, it does it all there too, as every single element of this movie, every person and every detail, feels masterful. It’s a Hollywood romp that has been through the rigours of arthouse attention to detail and intention to stir.”
