Labrinth opens up on ‘Euphoria’ exit: “I don’t let people treat me like shit”

Songwriter and composer Labrinth has elaborated on his decision to remove himself from the soundtrack for season three of the HBO hit show, Euphoria, for which he contributed to the soundtrack for the first two seasons.

After the show was announced for its latest run, which is set to premiere on April 12th, Labrinth was initially slated to be reprising his role alongside veteran film composer Hans Zimmer, but on March 12th, Labrinth took to social media to hint at his departure, stating: “Fuck Columbia, double fuck Euphoria, I’m out. Thank you and goodnight.”

Labrinth has now followed up with further information explaining his decision to walk out on the show via his Instagram story, posting an all-caps statement that accused the show’s staff of treating him poorly.

The statement reads: “People will comfortably lie in this industry and still call themselves honest people, so no cap. I decided to remove what ever [sic] music I had in it. I spoke to HBO, as far as I know we’re cool. I left because – last truth – when I work for someone, their vision is paramount to me but I don’t let people treat me like shit.”

His exit from the show was previously confirmed by its creator, Sam Levinson, during an interview with Rolling Stone published on April 10th, although no reason for his departure was given by the writer and director at the time.

This ugly exit adds to the growing list of controversies that have surrounded the show, both since its inception and in more recent years.

The show, while immensely popular, has attracted criticism for its portrayal of sexual relationships involving teenagers and depictions of drug use, and has also garnered early negative reception owing to controversies involving cast members.

On April 11th, Labrinth is scheduled to perform at Coachella, the same night that the festival is due to air an exclusive premiere of the first episode of Euphoria’s third season.

HBO and Sam Levinson have not yet commented in response to the statements made by Labrinth.
