Labrinth not involved in ‘Euphoria’ season three amid expletive-laden rant about show
Musician and composer Labrinth has not contributed to the soundtrack for season three of Euphoria.
The British artist previously helmed the musical on the hit HBO show for the first two seasons, but instead, Hans Zimmer has taken over in the role for the new series, which is set to premiere on April 12th.
It was previously announced that both Zimmer and Labrinth would contribute to the soundtrack for the third season.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, which broke the news that Labrinth was not credited on season three, Euphoria creator Sam Levinson kept his cards close to his chest when probed about the looming absence of Labrinth, saying, “I don’t know”.
However, he did praise Labrinth’s previous work on Euphoria, stating, “He’s an incredible collaborator and someone who really built the foundation of the sound of Euphoria.”
Levinson also outlined what he wanted Zimmer to bring to the show, sharing, “I was less interested in needle drops and more interested in something that guided us through this world. … They’re out of high school, so the pop roots of it have faded away.”
Labrinth’s absence from the third season is no major shock, considering his recent social media post distancing himself from Euphoria.
The British singer-songwriter took to Instagram on March 12th to post the all-caps statement, “I’m done with this industry.”
Ensuring there wasn’t any room for his comments to be misinterpreted, he added in no uncertain terms, “Fuck Columbia, double fuck Euphoria, I’m out. Thank you and goodnight.”
A few days later, he wrote in another post critiquing the entertainment industry, “We walk into this industry as pure creatives that wish to share colour and get turned into wolves of Wall Street, dribbling over stocks and shares.”
Labrinth scathingly continued, “We have meaningful relationships with like-minded people and discard them as soon as a bigger opportunity arrives.”
The singer remains scheduled to perform at Coachella this weekend, taking to the stage at the Outdoor Theatre on April 11th. The festival will also stage a premiere for Euphoria season three, which I suspect he won’t be attending…
