Labrinth elaborates on disdain for music industry: “I don’t subscribe”

Musician and Euphoria composer, Labrinth, has followed up on previous claims he made about quitting the industry, where he called out his label, Columbia Records, and the hit HBO show.

Last week, the English star posted a cryptic message on his social media channels, which declared boldly, “I’m done with this industry.”

He also added at the time, “Fuck Columbia, double fuck Euphoria, I’m out. Thank you and goodnight.”

After social media ran rampant with hypotheses as to where this might have come from, the Emmy-winner followed up the slander with a new post on Instagram.

The all-caps post began, “We hover around big stars hoping to be in their place one day, like snakes waiting to eat their owners.”

He added, “We walk into this industry as pure creatives that wish to share colour and get turned into wolves of Wall Street, dribbling over stocks and shares.”

Labrinth then turned his attention to the kinds of relationships the industry fosters, adding, “We have meaningful relationships with like-minded people and discard them as soon as a bigger opportunity arrives.”

He added, “Who the fuck said this is normal or okay to turn what I call God’s noise (our music) into Business transactions? I don’t subscribe.”

The star has been with the show ever since its conception; this time around, he was joined by Hans Zimmer for the soundtrack of the third season, which is set to air on April 12th on HBO.

When the new partnership was announced, the coveted composer praised Labrinth, sharing, “Labrinth’s music has shaped the show’s identity, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the ongoing story and helping shape this new season through music.”

Despite his wish to leave the industry behind, currently, the star remains scheduled to perform at Coachella Festival in California across both weekends in April and is also listed for Outside Lands in August.
