Justin Baldoni drops Taylor Swift subpoena in Blake Lively legal battle
The legal situation between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, scheduled for court on March 9th, 2026, has undergone another development. The latest switch once again involved Taylor Swift, the global popstar and close friend of Blake Lively, who was subpoenaed into the case but now isn’t.
The conflict between Lively and Baldoni began in December 2024, when Lively accused her It Ends With Us co-star of sexual harassment and filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, producer Jamey Heath, and his publicists, Melissa Nathan and Jennifer Abel. She also accused Baldoni and his team of attempting to orchestrate a purposeful smear campaign against her reputation.
In response, Baldoni filed a huge $400 million lawsuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, as well as against publications that first covered Lively’s accusations.
On May 10th, Baldoni subpoenaed Taylor Swift into the case. His team claimed that Lively threatened the musician into publicly supporting her in the legal battle, as well as previously claiming she was present during conversations about the movie. Lively immediately and strongly denied this claim.
“Mr Baldoni, Mr Sarowitz, and team continue to turn a case of sexual harassment and retaliation into entertainment for the tabloids,” Lively’s statement said about the subpoenaing of “Taylor Swift, a woman who has given a voice to millions the world over,” as an example.
Swift’s own team also released a statement, stating, “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history.”
They added that Baldoni’s use of her name was simply to “draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case.” Her law firm called the subpoena an “abuse of the discovery process.”
Now, it seems that Baldoni has conceded to this push back as The Wrap reports that he has dropped his subpoena against the singer, meaning that she will no longer be brought up in the case or forced to be part of it.
