Taylor Swift subpoenaed in Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni legal case
Taylor Swift has been officially subpoenaed by Justin Baldoni’s legal team in the case between the actor and his It Ends With Us co-star, Blake Lively.
The situation between the two actors began on December 31st, 2024, when Blake Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, producer Jamey Heath and his publicists Melissa Nathan and Jennifer Abel.
Her suit accused Baldoni and others of orchestrating a media smear campaign against her, including messages sent between Baldoni and his publicist. On January 16th, Baldoni sued Blake Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, for $400million, claiming they sought to “destroy him”.
A representative for Lively issued a statement to Deadline in response to the move to bring the Shake It Off singer into the centre of the action. “Mr Baldoni, Mr Sarowitz, and team continue to turn a case of sexual harassment and retaliation into entertainment for the tabloids,” the statement said, pointing to the subpoenaing of “Taylor Swift, a woman who has given a voice to millions the world over,” as an example.
“This is a very serious legal matter, not Barnum & Bailey’s Circus,” it stressed.
Meanwhile, Swift’s spokesperson reiterated her desire to be left out of the proceedings. “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history,” a Swift spokesperson says in response to the subpoena for Baldoni’s crew.
“This document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case,” the statement continued.
Baldoni appears to believe she has greater involvement in the issue than just licensing a song for the film, a move 19 other artists also made. His filing includes a text message that Lively purportedly sent Baldoni, invoking Swift and Ryan Reynolds as her “dragons”.
