Jimmy Kimmel says Donald Trump’s vendetta against him is to distract “from the Trump-Epstein Files”
After Donald Trump called for the firing of talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel twice, in quick succession, Kimmel suggested that this is a technique to distract people “from the Trump-Epstein Files”.
The latest feud between the pair kicked off on April 27th, when the president called for ABC to fire Kimmel from his late-night gig, after Kimmel called Melania Trump an “expectant widow” before an alleged shooter attempted to attack the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The president called this a “despicable call to violence” and said the comedian “should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC.”
On April 30th, he followed this up with another post on Truth Social, which demanded, “When is ABC Fake News Network firing seriously unfunny Jimmy Kimmel, who incompetently presides over one of the Lowest Rated shows on Television?”
In a new monologue shared on April 30th, and in a nod to Trump’s low presidential ratings, Kimmel shared the president’s latest post and quipped, “If incompetently presiding over not just one of but the lowest rating in history is why I should be fired, we should both be out of a job.”
Kimmel also revealed that the president’s tirade against him wasn’t just happening in a public forum: “He also called into Newsmax this afternoon to call me a low life and demand I be fired again.”
He added, “Isn’t there a war dragging on? Imagine if FDR had taken to the airwaves during the Battle of the Bulge to complain about a Little Orphan Annie comic strip he didn’t like? Trump has three wars going on right now: Iranians, Ukrainians, and comedians.”
After deeming Trump a “very prominent Republican” who fought against “censorship and cancel culture” while also celebrating “free speech”, Kimmel made another cutting remark.
“I hate to say this, and I hope it doesn’t get me in trouble: I’m starting to think Donald Trump might be a hypocrite,” said Kimmel. Using political rhetoric, Kimmel then called for a “ceasefire.”
Kimmel later argued that the mounting pressure for Kimmel’s show to, once again, be removed from the air was nothing more than a distraction technique.
“And of course, all of this is meant to distract us from the prices he didn’t lower on day one, and from the Trump-Epstein files that his attorney general refuses to release, and to distract us from the illegal war he started and can’t figure out how to get out of,” he said.
Though ABC and Disney are still ignoring Trump, the Federal Communications Commission has demanded an early review of ABC’s broadcast licenses.
