Donald Trump calls for Jimmy Kimmel’s immediate firing over a “despicable call to violence”
Donald Trump has called for Jimmy Kimmel to be immediately fired after the presenter mocked the US President, as well as his wider administration, by delivering an alternative version of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Kimmel’s episode aired two days before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where Trump and his wife, Melania, had to be evacuated from the scene after a shooter was apprehended entering the building. On Jimmy Kimmel Live, the talk show host staged a satirical version of the evening, delivering jokes that included him saying the president’s wife looked like an expectant widow.
Trump took to Truth Social, writing, “Wow, Jimmy Kimmel, who is in no way funny as attested to by his terrible Television Ratings, made a statement on his Show that is really shocking. He showed a fake video of the First Lady, Melania, and our son, Barron, like they were actually sitting in his studio, listening to him speak, which they weren’t, and never would be.”
He added, “He then stated, ‘Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.’ A day later a lunatic tried entering the ballroom of the White House Correspondents Dinner, loaded up with a shotgun, handgun, and many knives. He was there for a very obvious and sinister reason.”
Trump continued, “I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence, and normally would not be responsive to anything that he said but, this is something far beyond the pale. Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Trump’s wife Melania also took to X earlier today condemn the comedian, urging the broadcaster ABC to take a stand against him and his show. This is the most recent exchange between the Trump family and the talk show host, with the latter more recently delivering a nine-minute rant, where he called Trump “a delicate snowflake with the thinnest fat skin of any human being ever.”
Jimmy Kimmel Live is set to air on ABC tonight on April 27th, providing the comedian with the platform to respond to Melania’s plea for his employers to remove him from the channel.
