Jerry Cantrell solves mystery of missing guitar
Jerry Cantrell, guitarist of Alice in Chains, has found his G&L Rampage’ Blue Dress’ guitar, after previously claiming that it was stolen. However, it appears that Cantrell had simply “misplaced” his instrument.
Cantrell’s social media team previously reported on April 9th that the guitar had either been stolen from his car in Los Angeles or San Bernadino. Following the revelation, his fans then began investigating the supposed theft, and a search ensued for the cherished item.
However, on the evening of April 10th, Cantrell posted a video online to explain that he’d found the guitar, and much to his delight, the instrument was never stolen. “We found the damn thing,” he said. “There it is. What a relief.”
According to Cantrell, the guitar was “misplaced” when being moved from photo shoots and recording sessions. “I’m working on a record right now, and I really thought this thing had gone missing,” he said. “So, thankfully it was just misplaced.”
Cantrell went on to thank the people who had gotten involved in the search for the guitar before explaining how bad the experience was when he lost one previously. “It’s so amazing to me, everybody’s outreach and support and a willingness to get the word out,” the guitarist noted. “I’ve been through a stolen guitar thing before with an EVH and it took me 18 years to get it back.”
Guitar theft seems to be a common occurrence, and Cantrell named some of his “brothers” who had previously had their axes stolen.
“Zakk [Wylde] and [Tom] Morello and [Billy] Corgan, etc., have similar stories, and I was worried to death that this thing was gone over the weekend,” Cantrell said before noting, “So, I think the headline here is how important this guitar is not only to me, but to everybody else.”
He added, “And it just makes me feel fucking very fucking special to have so many great people in my life and so many people care.” Cantrell signed off by saying that he was happy to “cry wolf” on this occasion and that he hoped people understood his concern. “There it is,” he concluded. “And we will be rocking together very shortly for you. And, thanks again. Bye.”
The G&L Rampage ‘Blue Dress’ has been used by Cantrell to record almost every song he’s ever worked on, so for him to lose it and freak out is understandable. As stated, Cantrell is using the guitar to record a new album, so keep an eye out for information on the record in the coming months.
