Jello Biafra returns to the stage just months after suffering stroke
Former Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra has made a heroic return to the stage after suffering a stroke earlier this year.
Biafra made a guest appearance at TentacleFest, run by his own label Alternative Tentacles Records, which took place at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on June 27th.
The punk icon took to the stage to join Wheelchair Sports Camp for a rendition of their collaboration ‘Make It Make Sense’.
TentacleFest later took to social media to share footage of the much- welcomed comeback, which they posted alongside the caption, “Not only was TentacleFest was an amazing show, it also featured the return of Jello Biafra to the stage! Check out this clip of Jello coming out to sing ‘Make It Make Sense’ with Wheelchair Sports Camp! Thank you to Crisis Actor for the clip!”
The festival continued, “Huge thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate all things Alternative Tentacles with us! Thank you to the amazing Great American Music Hall for hosting us. Huge thank you to our amazing bands Wheelchair Sports Camp, Death Hymn Number Nine, Voodoo 5, Vic Bondi And His Issues, and Crisis Actor for their incredible performances!”
In March, Biafra was taken to the hospital following a hemorrhagic stroke, which was caused by his high blood pressure, yet he’s returned to doing what he does best already.
Two months later, a health update was issued on his behalf, which reads, “Jello update. Jello is progressing nicely. His speech has mostly come back in full, and cognitively, it’s like the stroke never happened. The left side is still weak but it is doing much better than it was.”
On an optimistic note, the statement continued, “He has been living with me so I can care for him, but he is so much more self sufficient than he was, he will most likely go home this coming week.”
It concluded with a message of gratitude, adding, “Thank you again for the outpouring of support. It has meant the world to him.”
While it was only a brief cameo, it’s a positive sign nonetheless to see Biafra back where he belongs so soon after suffering the health scare. It’s available to watch here.
