IDLES have shared an incredible animated video for their new song ‘Model Village’, taken from their forthcoming album Ultra Mono. The song is a stomping anthem and is easily our ‘Track of the Day’.
The long-awaited follow-up to IDLES’ game-changing album Joy As An Act of Resistance will arrive on September 25th via Partisan records. The first few songs ‘Mr Motivator’, ‘Grounds’ and ‘A Hymn’ all hinted at another barnstormer. Now, it’s confirmed.
Bristol’s favourite punk band have gathered up a fierce fandom since 2018 and they’re set to reap the benefits of such a fandom with the release of their new album next month. But to keep them happy, the band have shared not only a new track in ‘Model Village’ but a brilliant new video too.
The clip is directed by Michel Gondry and his brother Olivier. Michel Gondry has previously directed not only videos for The White Stripes, Daft Punk and Radiohead but also Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.
Frontman Joe Talbot said of the track: “I hated growing up in a city that was really a town that was really a fishbowl. I left as soon as I could, only to realise the fishbowl didn’t exist…just the fish, and they’re everywhere.
“Basically, in the first part we try to illustrate the lyrics as close as possible, to create the world, and then in the second half…they go to the moon,” Gondry said of the clip which he has been crafting in his Los Angeles studio during lockdown.
You can listen to the new track and see the animated video for ‘Model Village’ below as we await Ultra Mono.
