IDLES share the tender new song ‘A Hymn’ ahead of the new album
There aren’t many bands around right now who can instantly make chills course around your body. IDLES, however, the Bristolian punks hellbent on positivity, are certainly one of those bands.
The group have released another taste of their upcoming album, Ultra Mono, the group’s third record, the brilliant ‘A Hymn’. We’ve got so swept up in the song’s bubbling power that we’ve made it our Track of the Day.
The song is a deeply menacing track but that tone belies the tenderness which underpins the track. In fact, it’s hard not to see the song as anything but a ballad or at least as close as IDLES have ever been to it.
The band teased the song last week but have also shared the track this week: “‘A HYMN’ is a hymn that rejoices in the sinister flesh-eating virus of the pedestrian. It sings the tune of normal’s teeth sinking into your neck as you sleep stood up with your eyes open. Amen.”
The track acts as a moment of refrain from IDLES rollicking output and instead provides a doom-laden sound which offers a vulnerability and veracious attitude that makes the band one of the best in Britain.
