‘Heat 2’: The rumoured cast and when production will begin

Michael Mann‘s Heat 2 is edging closer to finally becoming a reality with more names being added to the star-studded cast.

Mann has been discussing the movie for many years, stating in 2025, “I look forward to possibly shooting it in 2026. We’re in the middle of doing all the things — budgeting, scheduling, casting process.”

Now, a new report from The Wrap states that Heat 2 will begin production in November with Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale set to star.

Last year, DiCaprio confirmed that he would be starring in the highly anticipated sequel, but his role was uncertain.

DiCaprio said the film is meant to be “an homage” to the original movie, before adding, “It’s one of those films that just keeps resonating, that we keep talking about, that has been imitated so many times and influenced so many different movies. So, we’re working on it. But it’s certainly exciting.”

According to The Wrap, DiCaprio will play Chris Shiherlis, originally portrayed by Val Kilmer, and Bale will take on the role of Vincent Hanna from Al Pacino.

Furthermore, the cast could also include Adam Driver, who is reportedly locked in talks to portray the villainous Wardell.

Mann did previously suggest Driver would be involved, saying last year, “Let me put it this way: Adam and I got along like a house on fire [on Ferrari]. We have the same work ethic – which is pretty intense. We like each other, and we had a great time working together artistically.”

Additionally, The Wrap reports that Stephen Graham is in negotiations to play Neil McCauley that Robert De Niro previously brought to the screen in the original.

When the film was first announced in 2022, Mann said of his bold plans for the production, “It’s totally planned to be a movie, Is it a modest movie? No. Is it a very expensive series? No. It’s going to be one large movie.”

While there are still more major roles to be cast, Heat 2 is shaping up to be an A-list affair, and a film that can’t come soon enough.
