Leonardo DiCaprio confirms work on ‘Heat 2’ and rules out ‘Cliff Booth’ role
Leonardo DiCaprio has officially given details regarding his work on the long-awaited Heat 2 as well as the latest Cliff Booth film on its way to Netflix.
The acting legend recently starred in One Battle After Another alongside Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro. Now, with news of a second instalment in the Heat universe with director Michael Mann, DiCaprio has explained what fans can expect out of the long-awaited sequel.
Speaking with Deadline, DiCaprio said that this latest version is meant to be “an homage” to the original movie, saying, “It’s one of those films that just keeps resonating, that we keep talking about, that has been imitated so many times and influenced so many different movies. So, we’re working on it. But it’s certainly exciting.”
While DiCaprio was in talks to play the role of Val Kilmer’s Chris Shiherlis or Al Pacino’s Vincent Hanna, he has not confirmed which character he would be playing in the film.
There had previously been speculation that Adam Driver was also connected to the movie, however Mann did not elaborate other than saying that the film was “possibly shooting it in 2026.”
Elsewhere, DiCaprio was also asked about the upcoming Cliff Booth movie set for release on Netflix. Following the story of Brad Pitt’s character from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, DiCaprio said that he was not going to be reprising his role as the Hollywood superstar Rick Dalton in the movie.
However, after going through Quentin Tarantino’s Hollywood odyssey, DiCaprio said he is eager to see what director David Fincher will do with the material, saying, “I cannot wait to see the Cliff Booth story, but I’m not in it. I think David Fincher’s the perfect man for the job. Quentin is a huge fan of his work, I’m a huge fan of his work, and there’s nobody better to carry on that lineage and tell that story. I think it’s the next phase of Cliff Booth’s life.”
Despite being a continuation of the story, Pitt also explained that the film was set to be an episode into the Hollywood stuntman’s life.
Though the details of the film remain scarce, it has been reported that fans will get to see Booth as he made his way through Old Hollywood working as a stuntman and his work with major figures of the industry before working with Dalton.
