HBO reveal first look of ‘Harry Potter’ series and announce new cast members
HBO shared a first-look image of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter and confirmed the release date for the television adaptation.
In May, it was confirmed that McLaughlin had been cast in the eponymous role and would be taking over from Daniel Radcliffe as Potter. At the same time, HBO also announced Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. More than 30,000 young actors applied for the three main roles.
Now, fans have been given the first glance of McLaughlin as Potter, who bears a staggering resemblance to Radcliffe in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. He is seen wearing the same rounded spectacles and is also donning the same famous scar on his forehead.
The first series has entered production in the UK ahead of a planned 2027 release. Additionally, HBO has confirmed Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
Other notable cast members include John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Luke Fallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Nick Frost as Hagrid.
Upon announcing McLaughlin, Stanton and Stout in the main roles, showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod said in a joint statement of the trio: “After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron.”
They continued: “The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”
