Further casting announced for ‘Harry Potter’ HBO remake
Further casting has been announced for the upcoming television remake of the Harry Potter series for HBO, including a number of prominent roles in both the adult and child cast.
The latest adult line-up includes Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.
They join the already announced names, including John Lithgow as Professor Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonigle, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.
Responding to the casting of Flynn in the role of Lucius Malfoy, Jason Isaacs, who played the character in the original film franchise, said on Instagram: “I just heard that the great Johnny Flynn with be playing Mr Malfoy in the new HBO TV series, which is sensational news for Harry Potter fans, which I want because Johnny is a brilliant actor.”
Meanwhile, the children’s cast has been supplemented with the additions of Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, and Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown.
The four young actors join the ensemble cast, led by Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout, who will play the main roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, respectively.
Given the dominant role that all the child actors will play in the series over the coming years, taking up a major part of their adolescence, Hagrid actor Frost previously spoke of the significance of this, explaining how his own values line up with his character’s.
He said: “Look, I’m a dad myself, so I am going to be very protective to the children, and I think that is Hagrid’s — one of the kind of baselines of his relationship with those children. He’s very protective of them, and I honestly can’t wait.”
The first series of Harry Potter is expected to arrive on HBO in 2026.
