Nick Frost speaks out on ‘Harry Potter’ role: “I am going to be very protective to the children”

Nick Frost has spoken out for the first time after being cast in the HBO remake of the Harry Potter series, as he said he sees his most important role as being “protective to the children.”

The actor revealed his expectations for the show in an interview with ScreenRant on June 2nd, reflecting on how the values of his character Hagrid align with his own life.

Frost said: “Look, I’m a dad myself, so I am going to be very protective to the children, and I think that is Hagrid’s — one of the kind of baselines of his relationship with those children. He’s very protective of them, and I honestly can’t wait.”

He continued: “I’ve had the opportunity to go and see some sets, and they’re growing a Hagrid beard, and I’m seeing the Sorting Hat, and here are some wands. It’s absolutely amazing,” before adding: “That’s the reason I wanted to do it in the first place — to get to retell and to be Hagrid. I get a chance to be Hagrid. It is amazing.

The actor’s role as one of the core adult members of the cast was announced a number of weeks ago, where he will star alongside John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.

Additionally, the cast for the main child roles was revealed on May 27th, with Dominic McLaughlin playing the role of Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The trio beat out over 30,000 auditions from other children to bag the coveted parts.

Filming for the first series of Harry Potter is set to commence in the summer, with its premiere release set for 2026.
