HBO reveal actors for Harry Potter, Hermoine Granger and Ron Weasley in ‘Harry Potter’ series
After 30,000 children auditioned for the roles, HBO has confirmed who will play Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley in their upcoming Harry Potter series.
It has been confirmed that Dominic McLaughlin will play the role of Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. They will be following in the footsteps of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, respectively.
Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod said in a joint statement: “After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”
The statement continued: “We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”
None of the three actors are particularly well-known; however, Stanton has previously starred as Matilda in the West End production of Matilda: The Musical. McLaughlin is also set to appear in the upcoming Sky series, Grow, starring Nick Frost, who will play Hagrid in the new Harry Potter series.
Filming is set to begin on the series this summer ahead of a scheduled release of the first season in 2026 on HBO.
Last month, it was confirmed that John Lithgow will take on the role of Albus Dumbledore. Alongside him will be Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Luke Fallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Frost as Hagrid.
Upon the announcement, Frost shared on Instagram: “You’re a wizard, Harry!!! Thank you for trusting me with such a loyal, gentle and courageous half-giant like Rubeus Hagrid.” In tribute to the late Robbie Coltrane, Frost continued, “Robbie, I promise I won’t let you down.”
