Hayley Williams says Morgan Wallen is the “racist country singer” in her song
Hayley Williams has revealed that the “racist country singer” she sings about in the titular track on her new album, Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party, is Morgan Wallen.
Speaking with the New York Times, Williams discussed the details of her latest solo album, which included 17 songs that had previously been released as singles. In the titular track, ‘Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party’, Williams sings, “I’ll be the biggest star, At this racist country singer’s bar.”
When the hosts of the Popcast asked the singer-songwriter to “name names”, Williams responded: “It could be a couple but I’m always talking about Morgan Wallen, I don’t give a shit.”
Unbothered, she then dared the ‘I’m The Problem’ singer to “meet me at Whole Foods, bitch – I don’t care.”
In 2021, Wallen was removed from more than 400 US radio playlists after a video emerged of him drunkenly using a racial slur. At the time, he said, “I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”
He also owns Morgan Wallen’s This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen and was arrested in 2024 for throwing a chair from the roof of the establishment.
In the same interview, the Paramore frontwoman discussed why she had to “tear down Paramore” to survive; the group are currently on a break following their 2023 album, This Is Why.
Similar to the religious themes in her new hit song ‘True Believer’, Williams shared: “While I was deconstructing my faith and my religious upbringing from around age 19 to forever, I really didn’t realise how much of Paramore for me was a religious experience, a God, a pillar in my life. You’ve got to deconstruct this system that you were a part of on multiple levels.”
Far Out branded Williams’ new project “an incredible hour-long project overflowing with unique lyricism and boundless energy.” She has also hinted that there may be another track or two to be released before the project is fully completed.
