Morgan Wallen allegedly refused to participate in ‘Saturday Night Live’ sketch

Morgan Wallen reportedly refused to participate in a Saturday Night Live sketch on March 30th which led to Joe Jonas appearing in the segment instead.

The most recent episode of the series aired over the past weekend and the majority of the aftermath has revolved around Wallen’s exit from the show. Typically, the musical guest waves goodbye with the rest of the cast, but Wallen abruptly left after saying his goodbyes to host Mikey Madison and didn’t acknowledge the other people working on the production.

Wallen is yet to personally comment on the incident. However, he did later post a picture of a private jet on Instagram alongside the caption, “Get me to God’s country”. The country star has also since started selling a range of merchandise which have “Get me to God’s country” printed on them which is seemingly his way of poking fun at the controversy.

Additionally, Saturday Night Live’s longstanding cast member Kenan Thompson labelled it “abrupt”, called Wallen a “complicated individual” and told EW: “It’s definitely a spike in the norm. We’re so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us, everybody’s saying, ‘Good job, good job, good job.’ So when there’s a departure from that, it’s like, ‘Hmm, I wonder what that’s about?’”

Now, Page Six reports that Wallen declined to appear alongside Madison, Ego Nwodim, Chloe Fineman, and Bowen Yang in the ‘Big Dumb Line’ sketch. The sketch featured the group singing about their favourite activities in New York City. Following Wallen’s refusal, Joe Jonas instead participated.

The publication quotes an insider from the show who claimed Wallen was “not super friendly” on set, before adding, “They had hopes he would do the pre-tape and perhaps more, but no joy.”

Saturday Night Live is set to return on April 5th. Jack Black will host for the first time in 20 years, and Elton John and Brandi Carlile will provide music.
