Hayley Williams shares new single, ‘Showbiz’

Hayley Williams has released the 20th and final track from her third solo album, Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party, and the lyrics speak to tensions under the limelight.

On November 7th, Williams officially released the final track of the new album, which has enjoyed a curious roll-out; 17 of the tracks were released on a free website as singles, before a slower move towards a fully delineated project.

Now, Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party is complete with the release of the 20th single, titled ‘Showbiz’.

Though many have speculated that the recent album confirms Paramore’s break-up, Williams has reassured fans that the three-piece is simply “on a break”.

In the new song, however, she sings, “May never happen again / Stings like sweat on broken skin / And it’s never enough / Tastes like the whole ocean / Exit stage left / What might be the end / Showbiz, showbiz.” Williams is not clear what is “ending” here.

Nonetheless, in the 19th song to be released, titled ‘Good Ol’ Days’, Williams calls herself “Miss Paramore,” suggesting that the band she began at the age of 15 still has a future.

Recently, she confessed she felt she had been “blamed for all the shit” that led to their various hiatuses. Nonetheless, the new lyrics also point to her relationship with Paramore guitarist, which ended recently.

She also confirmed that this record will be the last under her own name. In a recent interview, the Paramore vocalist reflected on the project, sharing, “I made this record, and it kind of feels like it just exploded out. It does feel right to put it out under my name. But I think I have to exercise saying that I feel like it’s the last record I’ll do under my name, and I feel proud of that.”

The completed album marks her third solo work, following 2020’s Petals for Armor and 2021’s Flowers for Vases. Far Out deemed Williams’ new offering “an incredible hour-long project overflowing with unique lyricism and boundless energy.”
