Grammys 2025: Trevor Noah confirmed as host

Comedian Trevor Noah has been confirmed as the host for the upcoming Grammy Awards ceremony on February 2nd in Los Angeles.

Despite the recent devastating wildfires that have caused devastation across Los Angeles, which has killed 27 people, organisers have stated the Grammys will still go ahead as planned at the Crypto.com Arena.

The former star of The Daily Show was first tasked by the Recording Academy with hosting the prestigious music ceremony in 2021, and this year’s event will mark the fifth consecutive occasion he’s been in charge of the Grammys.

Speaking to Variety ahead of the ceremony in 2024, Noah said of the biggest challenges of hosting the Grammys: “I know this sounds like a weird thing to say, but you don’t want to disappoint the artists that you love. Like, I cannot imagine what it would be like to tell a joke and turn and see Beyonce going [shakes his head and scowls].”

The South African continued: “Because that would mean whenever I listened to Beyonce’s music, I would forever have that image in my head. If you don’t do well for a live audience, OK, you’re gonna bounce back; if you don’t do well for a home audience, OK, some people are going to comment online. But to have the look of disappointment come from an icon or somebody that you really love — I do not wish for that experience. So I work twice as hard.”

At this year’s Grammys, Beyoncé is the most-nominated artist, receiving a total of 11 nods which also makes her the most-nominated artist in the history of the awards ceremony. Other notable nominees include The Beatles, who have received two nods for their 2023 track, ‘Now and Then’, and Taylor Swift is also shortlisted in six categories.

Although the Grammys will proceed as originally scheduled, several events around the main ceremony have been cancelled due to the wildfires. Last week, Universal Music Group released a statement explaining its decision and revealing plans to “redirect the resources that would have been used for those events to assist those affected by the wildfires.”
