Grammys 2025: Chappell Roan wins ‘Best New Artist’
Chappell Roan has crowned off a remarkable 12 months by winning ‘Best New Artist’ at the Grammys in Los Angeles.
Although Roan released her breakthrough album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, in 2023, it took until 2024 for her name to enter public consciousness. Notably, at Lollapalooza, she broke the attendance record with her set despite originally being scheduled to appear on a smaller stage before it was moved to the main stage due to safety concerns.
Roan is set to confirm her status as a festival headliner in 2025, with summer slots lined up in Europe at prestigious events such as Reading and Leeds in the UK and Primavera Sound in Barcelona.
Prior to the Grammys, Roan took to Instagram to share her joy at being nominated, stating, “Hey girls I just woke up. Good morning booboos. It’s Grammy week. I am very emo. My heart feels warm and fuzzy with all the support I have been given this past year.”
Roan was in a similarly sentimental mood during her acceptance speech, remarking to the crowd at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, “I told myself if I ever won a Grammy and I got to stand up here in front of the most powerful people in music, I would demand that labels and the industry profiting millions of dollars off of artists would offer a livable wage, especially to developing artists.”
To win ‘Best New Artist’, Roan beat strong competition from Sabrina Carpenter, Benson Boone, Doechii,
Raye, Shaboozey and Teddy Swims. Roan also took to the stage at the Grammy Awards to perform a slice of The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess and soak up her victory.
Elsewhere at the Grammys tonight, Roan was also nominated in several categories, such as ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ featuring in the shortlist for ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Best Pop Solo Performance‘.
